Steve Winwood
About Time

This was released in 2003 and I've been meaning to review it. Its been on high rotation over Xmas - one of the songs (the cover of Why Can't We Live Together) got played on the radio when I was half asleep and it kept popping up in my head. Its Steve's private production - the majors want more '80's style hits. He produced himself at his studio and issued on his Wincraft label.

This is Steve's best album since Arc of A Diver and Talking Back the Night. He plays Hammond including bass pedals. Steve's voice is in fine form and he teamed up with an excellent guitarist Jose Piresede Almeida Neto and a very strong drummer/percussionist in Walfredo Reyes Jr. The always-rewarding Karl Denson contributes some lovely sax and flutes on 4 tracks.

I'm not going into detail but every track is great listening with Steve brining in a range of rhythmic styles. I would love to see this band live - an Aussie reviewer saw them at a festival and raved about them. A live album is coming out this year.

If you don't have it - buy it and from Steve's site its on special for Xmas

This includes a bonus disc of 3 tracks including a live Mr Fantasy (he can still play killer guitar) and a 15 minute Voodoo Chile (a reprise not a cover as he was on the original). I have bought a second copy of the CD for a friend and some T-shirts.
